-Who We Are?
Friends of Corvallis Police is a 501(c) 3 Oregon corporation. We are dedicated to supporting the Corvallis Police Department in the delivery of crime prevention and policing services that benefit all of the community’s citizens and enrich the livability of Corvallis. Friends of Corvallis Police received its corporate charter as a non-profit organization from the State of Oregon on March 14, 2006. And, on July 12, 2006, the IRS granted us 501(c) 3 tax-exempt status. Top

-We are not part of the Corvallis Police Department
Friends of Corvallis Police, Inc. is separate and distinct from the Corvallis Police Department. No employee of the Corvallis Police Department is, or will be, an FOCP director or corporate officer. However, like any private citizen, off-duty Department employees may volunteer to work on FOCP projects. Top

-Friends of Corvallis Police does not enforce laws
FOCP does not have governmental powers and does not engage in law enforcement activities. Top

-What We Do?
Friends of Corvallis Police works to make Corvallis a community that does not tolerate crime and does not allow crime to flourish. We do this by:

  • Educating Corvallis citizens to be active in preventing crime in their neighborhoods and businesses.
  • Helping the Corvallis Police Department build effective partnerships with citizens and businesses.
  • Making it known widely that Corvallis is not the place to perpetrate crime because citizens, business owners, and Corvallis police work together actively to prevent crime and to arrest criminals.

-Our Objectives
Friends of Corvallis Police has four objectives.

  1. To build and maintain a community crime prevention education program.
  2. To support the Corvallis Police Volunteer Auxiliary in publicizing, promoting, and conducting Neighborhood Watch, Business Watch, National Night Out, the Citizen Police Academy, and other crime prevention efforts.
  3. To support Corvallis Police Department programs, projects, and special needs that prevent crime, provide community safety, and enrich community livability.
  4. To support Corvallis Police Cadet programs and activities.

-Why Did We Organize?
City of Corvallis budget cuts in July 2002 resulted in the reduction of public services provided by the City. Among other programs, cuts eliminated the Corvallis Police Department’s crime prevention program in its entirety. And, being that there is no way for people to donate monies to the Corvallis Police Department, crime prevention programs are unfunded. Hence Friends of Corvallis Police was started to receive donations for, and to raise money on behalf of, the Corvallis Police Department. Top

-How Money Is Raised?
FOCP raises funds through public donations and, in the hopefully not too distant future, through the sale of branded merchandise. Top

-How Donations and Revenues Will Be Used
Monies received by FOCP will be used to fund crime prevention and other police-related community programs in Corvallis, Oregon, and to buy equipment for the Corvallis Police Department and the Corvallis Police Cadets. Examples include things such as, but not limited to:

  • Educational materials, e.g., crime prevention procedures
